Macdonald Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario, and then attended Graceland University in Iowa on a track scholarship from 2009 to 2013. At Graceland he was a 4-time Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) all-conference selection in cross-country, and a 4-time NAIA national qualifier in cross-country, helping his team to a 9th place NAIA national finish in 2010. On the track, he was an NAIA All-American as part of Graceland ’s indoor distance medley relay team, and a national qualifier in both indoor (3000m) and outdoor (3000m steeplechase). Academically he earned a BA degree in Kinesiology, and is well-known in Hamilton as a community sport leader and organizer. He maintains an active network of African runners around the world.

In high school he was a three-time OTFA (now Athletics Ontario) champion in indoor and outdoor track, and cross-country. In 1985 he represented Canada at the IAAF World Junior Cross-Country Championships in Portugal. He attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and earned a BA there in 1989. He was a member of Dartmouth’s cross-country team that won four consecutive Heptagonal and three consecutive Regional championships, and a member of the team that was runner-up in the NCAA D1 Championships in 1986 and ’87.

During high school, Tom went to OFSAA XC and joined Monte Cristo Track Club. He has been a silver medallist in the U20 800m Provincial Indoor Track Championships, and has anchored the

Henry Challen is a former OFSAA Cross Country runner at Westdale Secondary and has completed the Hamilton Road to Hope half marathon twice. He is a graduate of the Bachelors of Arts & Science program at McMaster University with an aim of attending law school. He enjoys working with the PACK runners as a mentor and training partner.
